Kirby and the Forgotton Land is a breath of fresh air!

Our colourful, quirky and lovable Kirby is back in a brand-new adventure in ‘Kirby and the Forgotten Land’ out now for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo eShop.

The game was developed in mind for the 30th anniversary of the Kirby series.

Released on the 25th March 2022, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first platforming game in the franchise to feature full 3D gameplay. With its bright vivid colours, light-hearted and upbeat soundtrack, it ticks all the boxes of a fun family filled game.

Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, Kirby and the Forgotten Land takes you on an adventure like no other, where the player controls Kirby through various stages, transforming his mouthful into some pretty crazy and interesting objects such as cars, vending machines and even industrial scaffolding! 

Kirby offers a vast amount of exploration space, where you can discover new items, hidden coins and secret areas.

The combat system is fairly easy to navigate, and you can obtain different abilities using the Mouthful option. Swallowing enemies is great, especially if you find yourself in a bit of an awkward situation with multiple enemies, but you can also spit them out, defeating individual enemies one at a time.

One ability in particular when using the Mouthful button, is the easter egg nod to ‘The Legend of Zelda’ (also published by Nintendo), where Kirby becomes Link with a cute little elf hat and the ever-mighty Master Sword!

Save the Waddle Dees! Before you begin each stage, there is a checklist of things to do (optional of course!) and our primary objective is to save, along with our little blue flying chinchilla friend Elfilin (little creatures who are being kidnapped by the ferocious Beast Pack) and return them back to the main town hub of the game. The more Waddle Dees you collect, the bigger the town increases. 

This then enables the player to gain access to fun mini-games and compete with other players around the world, to vie for top place on the main leader board.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land also introduces a 2nd player mode, where you take control of a Waddle Dee (wearing a cool bandana), who uses a spear as a primary weapon.

Each of the separate stages are filled with lush colours, and an orchestral score that cannot be beaten. Kirby’s personality really shines through in this game, making it a fun and enjoyable title to play.

Here at 1st11, we had a great gaming experience, playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land for the Nintendo Switch.

Different from its predecessor’s, it offers a different take on platforming really pushing the boundaries of what Kirby is really capable of. There are some lovely touches to the game, such as the different copy abilities from using Mouthful, to the various enemies and bosses located around the map. There are also some sneaky side missions you can do too, if you feel like taking a breather from the main campaign.

Would we recommend playing it…? The answer in short is yes! If you love your characters with big kawaii type puppy dog eyes, colours that really pop onscreen, and platforming with a bit of a twist, then this is the game for you.

Critics have currently hailed it as one of the best Kirby games ever made, and we can’t say that it has disappointed!
