We decided to put the new Moto GP 2021 through its paces on PS5

MotoGP 2021 has arrived and we give it a spin on PS5

Life can be a whole lot of fun on two wheels going 200mph at 4k and 60fps+

It has been a near impossible feat trying to secure a Playstation 5 without paying an extortionate amount to vile scalpers that have been capitalising and indeed contributing to the biggest console drought the world has ever seen. This is why therefore this review of MotoGP 2021 is slightly belated as the game has already been out for three months, however I was determined to play it in its full glory on a next gen console and 4K display. In the sim-racing world lots of games seem to get a lot of attention where the emphasis is on four wheels, Forza, Gran Tourismo, Assetto Corsa etc. There games are all fantastic, however I have always been partial to motorcycle games as the dynamic is quite different, MotoGP is the most long running and iconic game in the genre so we jumped at the chance to pick up a copy and burn some virtual rubber!

Playing the game for the first time

I have occassionally flirted with MotoGP games in the past, I have always found them incredibly tricky to master but immesnly rewarding when you start to master attacking corners and doing wheelies up the final striaight! Firing up MotoGP 21 on PS5 (The game is widely available PS4, Xbox and Steam as well) you get the impression this is an extensively put together effort from Milestone. Many fans of MotoGP games and officially liscenced sports titles in general complain of incremental updates in each iteration of the game. In this case purchasing the game on a next gen console significanty moves the ball forward by way of graphics, textures and framerates. Playstation 5s DualSense controllers are phenominal with haptic feedback and even varied resistance on the brake and throttle reiggers! Make no misteak MotoGP 21 is a white knuckle, adrenaline fuelled, palm sweating, heart pumping experience on next gen platforms

Not just an acrade racer, the games career mode adds a huge amount of depth

From bike setup, hiring a manager, earning a salary and meeting expectations

I am never too keen when games become so realistic that they quickly lose their fun factor. In this case when I saw how extensive the features of career mode were I was a bit intimidated. Milestone however have done an amazing job at enabling newcomers to the game to start at their own pace and help you out with tips, guides and tutorials to get to up to speed. Each typical race is not just based on qualiying and the race itself but also multiple free practices and warm ups where you work with your pit crew and engineers to optimize the bike for each track. Sitting back on my couch and burning my way round Silverstone I found the bike to be understeering a bit, heading back to the pits I asked my engineers to do something about it and they explained the science part and made a recomendation. You can get hands on or simply tell your crew what you are experiencing on the bike and they will try and fix it, I love this feature as it

Work your way up the bike classes

Moto 3, Moto 2 and MotoGP

I started playing the game with Moto 3 in career mode, then after a while decided to give Silverstone a spin with Marc Marquez on a fully blown MotoGP bike. WOW! The sence of speed, ferosity and power is really cool with the sound cranked and running the game on a big screen TV in 4K. I have to say this is the most adrenaline I have felt playing a racing sim, for that reason I am giving this game a big thumbs up and highly reccomend if you have a next gen console or GeForce RTX card.
