    Matrix and Unreal Engine

Matrix Unreal Engine 5 pushes the boundaries of what a game engine can deliver

    Published December 20, 2021

Epic Games take things to the next level with Unreal Engine 5 with The Matrix

    In a brilliant interactive demonstration

When the Matrix was released twenty years ago, I am old enough to say I was one of of the first to see it in movie theatres. It was mind bendingly astonishing, not just in its concept and storytelling but also in its application of ground breaking visual effects and computer graphics. So it seems like a perfect fit that Epic Games deceided to collaborate with the team at Warner Brothers to amaze us with the power of Unreal Engine 5.

Unreal Engine 5 game engine takes us further down the rabbit hole

I remember around the same time as the original Matrix game out twenty years ago playing Unreal Tournament on my PC. So it's rather fitting that Epic teamed up with the Matrix IP to deliver something spectacular for fans of technology, also to create excitement and anticipation for the up and coming release of Matrix: Ressurections.

This is not a game, more of an experience and glimpse into the future

If anyone ever played the excellent Matrix game back on The PlayStation when it came out alongside the release of Matrix: Revolutions, firing up the Unreal Engine 5 demo will hit you with some instant nostalgia. All that of course is blown away by an excellent intro sequence featuring Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss which address the history of the film, what it inspired and where we are today in terms of technology. This idea of getting to a place where the real world and the digital could one day become indistinguishable is at the heart of the Matrix story. It just so happens that in the 20 years since the movie was released we we have seen some incredible advancements to the point that a real life Matrix style experience coult conceivably exist in 20, 40, 60 years.

So will there be a Matrix game?

The beginning of the Unreal Engine 5 Matrix experience presents us with action packed game mechanics for 5 minutes or so. The questions then lies, why is there not a Matrix video game? To us we feel that the timing is perfect for a massive metaverse style gaming experience, think of a grown up Roblox or Fortnite experience where you can pick a side playing as an agent or one of Neo's army of believers. Fingers crossed we will see a new Matrix game pushing the boundaries of technology in the cominng years ahead.
